• Schwelmer Tunnel - Schwelm
• This former Reichsbahn tunnel (German Reich Railway tunnel) is one of two parallel tunnels in Schwelm, which were used in WW II as an aircraft garage and factory.
• In the beginning of WW II the factory Espenlaub was based at the "Langerfeld airfield" (nowadays splitted into a industrial area and a cemetry). Due to the on going war and bombardments they decided to put it underground (so called operation "Meise 1"). In these tunnels aircraft types like "FW 190", "Ta 152" were repaired and improved. 1000 to 2000 workers did their work here during the war. This tunnel (the Schwelmer Tunnel) was used to bring workers, equipment and the planes into the underground complex.
